Sport 4 Life UK has teamed up with Unity Trust Bank to deliver a series of mock interviews, helping young people build the confidence and skills needed to succeed in upcoming job opportunities.
The sessions, delivered as part of Sport 4 Life’s employability programme, gave young people the chance to experience realistic interview scenarios ahead of real interviews they had already lined up. Volunteers from Unity Trust Bank led the mock interviews, offering tailored feedback, guidance and encouragement to each participant.
For many of the young people involved, this was a crucial step in their journey towards employment. Practising in a safe, supportive environment helped to reduce nerves, improve communication skills and boost confidence.
Building confidence through real employer experience
What made these sessions particularly impactful was the involvement of real employers. Unity Trust Bank employees brought first-hand experience of recruitment processes, giving young people valuable insight into what employers are really looking for.
From answering common interview questions to refining body language and communication style, participants were able to learn, adapt and improve in real time. The immediate, constructive feedback helped them understand their strengths while identifying areas for development ahead of their upcoming interviews.
The power of partnership
This collaboration highlights the importance of partnerships between charities and businesses in creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
By working together, Sport 4 Life UK and Unity Trust Bank are helping to bridge the gap between young people and employment, combining industry insight with tailored support to deliver real impact.
A spokesperson from Unity Trust Bank said:
“Partnering with Sport 4 Life reflects our commitment to supporting UK communities and helping to create positive social impact. Their work to reduce youth unemployment in Birmingham by equipping young people with the confidence and skills they need is making a real difference to the younger generation.
“Our colleagues who volunteered spoke very positively about the experience and found the mock interview sessions both welcoming and well organised. They valued the chance to offer feedback and were encouraged by the potential and drive they saw in the young people taking part.
Sport 4 Life is creating opportunities that have a lasting impact and we’re proud to support an organisation that puts people at the centre of its work.”
These mock interview sessions are just one example of how Sport 4 Life UK supports young people to overcome barriers and move into sustainable employment.
By connecting young people with employers, providing practical experience and building confidence, the charity continues to create pathways into work, and partnerships like this play a vital role in making that happen.
