Joe’s story

Age 25

When Joe left college with his qualifications, he also left behind a structured environment and a sense of purpose. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic made things even harder, with limited opportunities to meet new people or engage in social activities, Joe became increasingly isolated. Over time, his confidence and self-esteem deteriorated.

For three years, Joe remained unemployed. Without support, motivation, or direction, he began to believe that employment wasn’t possible for him.

“I didn’t try because I didn’t think I was capable of even getting a job.”

Eventually, Joe decided to reach out for help. He visited his local Job Centre where he was introduced to his work coach, Kuldip, and connected with Don, a mentor from Sport 4 Life UK.

This meeting was the turning point Joe needed.

The placement helped me realise that employment was possible. With the right support, I knew I could find a job

Joe’s hard work paid off. After completing the placement, KFC offered him a permanent position. For the first time in years, Joe felt a sense of pride and purpose.

Now, more than two years later, Joe is still working at KFC. He’s thriving in his role, learning new skills, and building a positive future.

“Don and Kuldip found me at the right time. I’m so grateful for their support — they’ve changed my life.”
