Dani’s story
Age 20
For Dani, life in Colombia had always been full of promise. She was preparing to start university, ready to take the next big step toward her future. But everything changed in an instant. Due to safety concerns, Dani and her family were forced to leave the only home they had ever known, uprooting their lives and seeking refuge in the UK.
Starting over in a new country at such a young age was overwhelming. Everything was unfamiliar – new surroundings, new people, and an education system that didn’t recognise her qualifications. Instead of progressing to higher education as planned, Dani had to retake GCSE-equivalent qualifications just to get back on track. The stress of navigating this new reality weighed heavily on her.
Determined to find a way forward, Dani and her family searched for an organisation that could support her education outside of the traditional school system. That’s when they found Sport 4 Life UK – and everything changed.
“As an asylum seeker, finding the right support is life-changing. It’s not just about education; it’s about having a chance at a better future.”
Through Sport 4 Life, Dani enrolled in Level 1 & 2 English Functional Skills qualifications, giving her the academic foundation she needed to move forward. For the first time since arriving in the UK, she felt a sense of hope.
After completing her qualifications, doors that once seemed closed were finally open again. Dani could now continue her education and work towards her university dream – a future that once felt out of reach.
“I can’t thank Sport 4 Life enough – especially Eugene. He was the light in one of the darkest times of our lives. Because of his support, we’ve been able to build a life here with hope and stability.”
Dani’s journey is a testament to the power of opportunity and support. Sport 4 Life helped her rebuild, not just academically but emotionally, empowering her to step into the future she always dreamed of.
